We are looking for a way to bulk import our data from our events. We have between 50-60 guests per event and have had 7 events so far.
We run a digital logging system here and wondered if there is a way for us to bulk upload our data into the events data rather than input the items in one by one.
Does anyone know if we can and how to go about doing it?
It’s not a straightforward thing to add, due to the differing formats of how groups collect their data. I’m always happy to investigate though with someone willing to put the time into trying it out with us.
You mention a digital logging system - could I ask what that is, and what format you can export that data as? If you can share an export of the data I can investigate further. You can send that to me in a private message if you prefer.
We built a bespoke system that stores our guests and their preferences, plus all the items they bring in with the make, brand, photos, the issue, the fix, who fixed it, feedback etc..
It gives our volunteers and guests a live dashboard of how we are doing at the event which is porjected on to a large screen which shows how many guests have visited today, how many people are being seen, the total fixes for the day, the type of items as well as triage and queue management
We also record PAT test results on the way out. The system has automation to send guests a reminder of our rules and results of the fix and PAT test for compliance and to make sure everyone is safe.
We can export it any format you like. Sounds like CSV or XLS will be most common for all the groups.
The system was built using AirTable. It’d be great to show you if you or any of the team were interested.
We had the same request after our first few repair cafes. In the end I decided it was a far better use of human-hours to record a click-in-place macro using autohotkey and get the data over like that.
After spending a short amount of time making the macro, I found a hurdle that annoyed me enough to upload the 60 or so results we had manually, and never finished it.
So it’s not a very helpful response since I can’t help you directly, but maybe it’s an avenue you would want to consider.
If the fixometer could accept bulk results in one single format as CSV or JSON or anything then I’m sure that it would suddenly become practical for the many technical people involved to develop their own solutions for this, no need to design a system that can handle the hundreds of possible formats used by each repair cafe.
