Hi Everyone
I hope you all had a successful International Repair Day and that any events you ran were well received and accomplished a lot.
We are building a closer working relationship with our Waste Management Company here in Shropshire and we may have the opportunity of them advertising all the Repair Cafes locally in the household recycling centres. It is a fantastic opportunity, but I am cautious as I don’t want to create a need for a service that is greater than our current capacity.
Are there any Repair Cafes out there that have examples of working closely with their waste management company and what extra work has it brought your way? If you advertise at the recycling centres, what items have you found brought to you that were going into those centres?
I look forward to hearing about your work.

Hi Pete
Sadly in our neck of the woods there is a PFI incumbent sweating the contract - let’s just say even their fans would acknowledge they don’t do ‘out of the box’ thinking!
But I’ve visited the general store in Selkirk who have a great relationship with the local waste disposal centre, they have signs up publicising their repair project (which is great btw!!). Sue there is very helpful and I’m sure would be able to tell you about their journey.
My tuppence is to say go for it! I’ve held back sometimes in the past from publicity due to fears of being overloaded and now I regret this. If you have a big queue then this will just make it more obvious to everyone we need more repair options. Having a real problem in front of you like overdemand might help folks think creatively about solutions.

In Hampshire the county has tried to get banners at every recycling centre to promote Repair Cafés and it’s also mentioned on the booking site when you go to request a slot to drop off waste. I’m not sure if they track traffic to the website, and the banners don’t always stay up for too long, but I definitely think that it’s worth trying to make it happen.
