We are running a repair café in Aarhus, Denmark and needed an event cart for making outdoor repairing easier and to be able to better host external events. Buying a cargo bike or an event cart would easily cost us 3000 euros. So I decided to build one myself and document the process.
I am super happy with the finished result, even though it’s not perfect. The total cost turned out to be just 450 euros. The trailer and BROR workbench being the most expensive parts.
I designed the cart to be easy to replicate worldwide, using readily available parts and simple tools. If you have suggestions for improving the design or decides to build your own version, I would love to hear about it.
The concept is inspired by the exact trailer you are sharing, which Simon Frémineur designed.
Regarding weather proofing oiling it up like a wooden ship would be the most effective solution.
The design tries to address a different needs we have faced:
1: Hosting external events without a car.
2: Bringing the repair café outside.
3: Setting up repair cafés in temporary spaces, like libraries and community centers.
The biggest take away we have from the project is, that people understand the concept instantly when seeing the cart. It’s a great conversation starter and attracts a lot of attention when being outside.
