We made an event cart / bicycle trailer for repair cafés (open source)

We are running a repair café in Aarhus, Denmark and needed an event cart for making outdoor repairing easier and to be able to better host external events. Buying a cargo bike or an event cart would easily cost us 3000 euros. So I decided to build one myself and document the process.

I am super happy with the finished result, even though it’s not perfect. The total cost turned out to be just 450 euros. The trailer and BROR workbench being the most expensive parts.

I have documented everything on our website: https://reparations.konsortiet.dk/2026/02/01/worlds-smallest-workshop/
The build guide is open source and can be downloade for free.

I designed the cart to be easy to replicate worldwide, using readily available parts and simple tools. If you have suggestions for improving the design or decides to build your own version, I would love to hear about it.

I love it! Only suggestion would be for some sort of weather-proofing.

It gives me an excuse to post these pics I took at FixFest 2021 in Brussels. It even has a kitchen, but takes more than a bicycle to pull it.

I forget who it belonged to?

I remeber it well. In fact, I jumped onboard and fixed a kettle!

That looks great @Andreas ! Love that it attaches to a bicycle. Thank you for sharing the guide as open source.

Thanks for all the kind words.

The concept is inspired by the exact trailer you are sharing, which Simon Frémineur designed.
Regarding weather proofing oiling it up like a wooden ship would be the most effective solution.

The design tries to address a different needs we have faced:
1: Hosting external events without a car.
2: Bringing the repair café outside.
3: Setting up repair cafés in temporary spaces, like libraries and community centers.

The biggest take away we have from the project is, that people understand the concept instantly when seeing the cart. It’s a great conversation starter and attracts a lot of attention when being outside.
