Screw types and other technical workshop posters

Following up on a conversation in another thread, I went looking for a poster listing various screw types for our workshop but came up empty handed!

If anyone knows of a good source of this or other workshop posters, pls shout out, thanks in advance.

I’m not sure what exactly I’m looking for but maybe overviews of materials, tools and things generally useful to repairers. I’d love a wall chart listing jst and other small cable connector types, molex etc but perhaps that’s too much to hope for!

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this!

First I found a Pinterest board which led me to this Etsy page which is a nice image but digital download only.

Then I played with some search terms in Etsy and filtered on “physical items” which turned up a few things in among a plethora of cutesy slop. The terms Poster types of electrical had some results. Replace “electrical” with other words like “tools”, “cables”, “screws” and there are a few more. Still quite a scant harvest though.

Among the results I found this computer hardware poster and this table of electronic components, quite like those.

Then, using the the title of the items do a wider internet search and found other shops, e.g. Printerval which is also just digital downloads, but then here is the same poster in physical form on AliExpress because of course there is.

Also among the search results was a link to Amazon and a few phrases turn up some things there, e.g. Chart Poster with electrical components - couldn’t find much else though.

Also at AliExpress you can search for custom print poster but I’ve no idea how that works.

Along the way I came across royalty-free images at Shutterstock, not exactly what you want but some cute images for use in publicity, websites or whatever. If you adjust the search terms there are some more relevant results although not all of them free to use so put the words royalty free into the search terms.

Anyway, more fun than doomscrolling but I’m going to stop now because I’ve not even had a coffee yet.

You surely haven’t forgotten the wiki??
https://wiki.restarters.net/Types_of_screw_head_and_screwdriver illustrates and describes 10 types of screwhead, importantly describing the differences between Philips, Pozidriv and JIS. With basic graphic design skills the meat of the Wiki page could be turned into a poster.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives lists a ridiculous number. The Wiki attempts to show just the ones you’re likely to come across in repair (though stating that, I realise I’m almost inviting someone to say “ok, but I came across a thingumy twiddle dot screw”. Be warned - I’ll probably retort that it was more likely a cammed-out Philips!)

As for connector types, you would have the same problem of selection (perhaps more so) in making a poster. I leave finding the Wiki references as an exercise for the reader.

Stepping back, I have to ask exactly what the purpose of a workshop poster would be and who it would be aimed at. Correct screwdriving techniques might be at least as important to display.

A thought: if anyone has good relations with the Design & Tech dept of a local school, how about asking whether they might like to set it as a student project or competition to design a workshop poster using the content of the Wiki types of screw page, and perhaps including a box with the key points from How to drive screws like a pro?

Or could iFixit be persuaded that designing such a poster would be in their interests?

Thanks Monique - loads of links to follow there, thanks so much for looking!

I had forgotten the wiki, thanks!

I think posters can serve a couple of roles, one is if you have a jst connector in hand but have forgotten if it’s a ZH or PH series - a glance at the chart will tell you and save you going to a computer/phone and googling it.

The other is setting the tone, it adds to workshop ambience and improves the Feng Shui.

Definitely.
Bell House Repair Hub has a couple of “how to wire a plug” and similar posters & I think it improves the ambience.

Hackney Fixers used to carry a set of laminated photos of things getting fixed which we used to hang up at every venue.

Surely that would depend on its alignment?

Absolutely, the alignment needs to be correct, otherwise all the electrons fall out.

I’m not sure when (if ever) was the last time I needed to know the difference between ZH and PH JST connectors, but you could probably cover the walls of a large workshop with posters at that level of detail! (And then you could have another bigger poster telling you on which wall to find the poster with the info you wanted.) Hey, I’ve thought of a better solution - why not bring along a smart device, and then you could just look up what you want on the Internet!

But ambiance, yes, absolutely, especially at a public event, but for that purpose it needs to be things that the public can relate to. I’m sure you could find posters covering first aid for electric shock, but at the same time we wouldn’t want to frighten our visitors.

I came across another Etsy listing for a poster like this:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1360569339/fastener-type-chart-poster-fastener

Seller is US-based, so shipping would be pretty expensive… Good for inspiration though perhaps

Nice, postage is £7.50 which could be worse…

The ‘similar to this’ algorithm suggests a few more that look good like this one on electronic component types: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4511425548/circuit-components-electrical

Thanks!
