RIP OG Pixel: Google ends support after just three years

Looks like Google is ending all software support (including security updates) for its original Pixel phone as threatened, after just 3 years (in December):

A silver lining is that the Pixel is officially supported by LineageOS.

It’s hard to see this as anything other than an attempt to force people to buy a newer device. Certainly, from a repair perspective, it seems absurd that Google offers such a short window for security updates.

I wonder whether this will help embed even more firmly the precedent of short support windows for OEMs. What does everyone think?
