We’re getting our first U.S. Federal-level hearing on Right to Repair in the U.S. House Judiciary Committee: watch and root for our guys on Tuesday, July 18 at 10am EST (Aaron Perzanowski, Kyle Wiens, Paul Roberts)
Thanks for sharing Peter! We’ll be cheering on from afar! ![]()
Good luck with that, Peter (and to Aaron, Kyle and Paul).
What is a ‘good outcome’ for the hearing? Recommendations for change? or more?
IMO this particular hearing is political theatre at the moment, there’s no associated legislation – yet. But it’s important political theatre because it’s the US Congress and influential elected officials will be grandstanding and commenting publicly on Right to Repair (hopefully on the positive side.) Also: there IS important active legislation concerning the “1201(c) exemption” which makes it legal to unlock the security features of a device to repair it (e.g. unlock your phone’s secure bootloader.)
Someone posted some fun live commentary on the hearing:
