Congratulations! A great series of events, I enjoyed reading your write up and seeing you struggle with much the same items as us!

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the struggles are indeed the same. In fact, this time one of the leading newspapers misquoted our workshop photo. We immediately clarified it and requested a correction. Some of our group members have also written on the newspaper’s website about it.

Ah yes! As well as the struggle with air fryers and fly swatters - media is a double sided struggle! It is useful to spread the word, but you are hostage to their telling a story.

We had a press article recently and I asked the journalist to check the details with me before publication, and we corrected a volunteer’s name. It’s a small mistake but really matters for the volunteer in question!

I would always recommend asking to see a copy before publication just to catch these silly errors, which with the pressure of deadlines always occur.

Yes, “fly swatters” here are what we call  mosquito bats in India.
And yes, sometimes journalists can be quite problematic — especially when they misquote or miss the context, which happens quite often! But for us, even a small mention goes a long way — it really helps bring visibility to our work. …Seriously, the matter doesn’t end there. Many people join us only to replicate our work without giving any credit. Recently, someone who was part of our volunteer team took the entire repair map and uploaded it on his sustainability website without mentioning us. When we noticed it, we immediately asked him to add proper credit — which he eventually did.
But yes, our struggles continue, and it’s disheartening when genuine collective efforts aren’t acknowledged.
