This “backyard mechanic” on YouTube is a right to repair hero. I believe he lives in Massachusetts and is taking advantage of the “right to repair” law for cars.
This video touches on many of the “right to repair” key issues: access to spare parts, ability to fix cars that are essential computers (when software is proprietary), and industrial design decisions that inhibit repair.
One thing this video did not do - although it does bring up safety issues with the batteries - is discuss the safety implications of DIY repairs to self-driving cars.
