Our new Fixing Factory opens in Hackney

We are so excited to announce the launch of our second Fixing Factory! On April 23rd we officially opened our doors, kicking off with a launch event. Located in the heart of Hackney, we’re bringing accessible and visible fixing to another community.

The Hackney Fixing Factory is a community repair hub helping people repair their broken electricals, and learn new fixing skills, shifting us from our current take-make-waste linear system towards a repair economy fit for the future.

We have exciting plans for the new space, including a wide range of events for local communities:

  • Fixperience workshops – a fun, hands-on way to jump into DIY repairs, cut down on waste, and keep a little extra cash in your pocket.
  • Weekly community repair events – drop in sessions to get help with a repair
  • Future Fixers training programme – free training for aspiring volunteers
  • and so much more…

Our affordable Fixperience workshops are running this May across our Hackney and Camden sites. You can learn the ins and outs of basic electrical repairs by disassembling and reassembling a toaster at our Toaster Teardown. Or go beyond the basics with an intro to soldering, learning how to splice wires and tackle simple electronics projects at our Solder On workshop. Book your space here.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Want to sign up to become a volunteer? We’re looking for people who are passionate about fixing, helping others and the planet to join our volunteer team. Learn more here.

The Hackney Fixing Factory is part of our new five year strategy to connect the fixing community for a future in which electronics don’t cost the earth. It joins our existing Camden site, which is run by project partners Possible. Together, we’re looking forward to offering our first ever Future Fixers programme in a few weeks! Learn more and sign up here.

Want a Fixing Factory in your London borough? We’re aiming to bring two more Fixing Factories to London high-streets in London in the next few months. While we’re looking at Haringey for one, if you have a suitable space for our fourth location, drop us a line!
