Really amazing to see all the experimentation here, great work all!

I’m thinking it would be useful to write some of this up in the Wiki for easy reference (and to help others find it).

Would anyone be up for writing a simple overview of ChromeOS Flex there?
We could then link to Lee’s fantastic write ups for more detailed information.

Great link.

Flex works well on Mac and is really easy to do: https://bigtechquestion.com/2022/04/26/software/mac/install-chromeos-flex-on-a-mac/

Flex is really lightweight too, so performs really well on older kit…just need that Play Store to come online… :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:

These two ChromeOS Flex comparison articles by Google suggest the wait for Google Play apps might be a long one!

Note that Google will not permit Chrome OS Flex devices to access Google Play or Android apps… at the moment anyway!

I noticed that Google’s announced that ChromeOS Flex has now moved from ‘early access’ to ‘general availablity’ and has been certified on quite a few devices.

Thanks James,

Interesting that Google is actively pushing that ‘reduce e-waste’ message as a USP. It’s a message that will have more punch as we get nearer to W10 EOL in October 2025. Also, explicitly mentioning PCs and Mac makes it feel like Google is prepared to take the OS fight to Apple & Microsoft.

We may be on the brink of a genuine 3rd player, which is suitable for home users & enterprise.

Still no sign of Play Store :frowning:, but Flex is still extremely useable.
