Hi @kenyasue - sorry to hear you couldn’t get in! That link should have filled in the password automatically, so I’m not sure why that didn’t work
We did record the session and I’ll post the video back here when we publish it.
Thank you so much, it was great! I learnt a lot!
look forward to it.Please sent a notice when its on line thank you
A huge thanks to all 93 of you who came along yesterday evening! It was brilliant to see so many of you and I hope you found it a useful session.
We’ve just published the recording of the session, which you can find here:
(direct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vLanOnZzUk )
Please feel free to share the recording with anyone you think might find it interesting
And remember, you can also find many of the tips Jennie shared on our wiki →
Thanks again and keep an eye out for more sessions coming soon

Hi James,
Really sorry not to be able to join the sewing machine tutorial yesterday.
I’d really appreciate it if you could send the recording once you have it.
Many thanks,
Laura
Hi Laura,
In case you missed the link, you can now find the recording here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vLanOnZzUk
Enjoy
Thank you! I started watching it at the weekend and look forward to carrying on this week.

Really interesting event - thanks Jenny and James! Just shows, 99% of sewing machine ‘repair’ is in fact maintenance.
I was interested in how the needle/bobbin mechanism actually works to create stitches; found this nice short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqRvljnNLFk that shows the needle thread being caught and wrapped around the bobbin thread, but that doesn’t attempt to show how this is possible when the bobbin has to be driven by something. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSecXVt-jU shows how the bobbin spool (in its holder) floats in the bobbin driver so the needle thread can pass completely around it. Nice engineering.
Great finds Ian, I had no idea this is how the mechanism works! I think it would be worth adding these to the wiki page as useful background. What do you think @philip?
Greetings on a sunny summer afternoon! I found this thread long after the workshop. Someone brought a Janone sewing machine recently to our stall at Church Street. We tried repairing it, and now, wondering if there’s any advice on where to refer the individual? Certainly will take a look at the recording and see if that helps but thought it would be helpful to have some companies or individuals to recommend as a backup.
Hi Muntasir,
You could refer them on to Jennie herself: https://londonrepairs.org/business/cheekyhandmades/
London Repairs also lists a few other places that do sewing machine repairs
Vacuum the machine regularly especially around the bobbin and it’s casing.
If that doesn’t work, try this company, I often use them . https://www.southerncountiessewing.co.uk
Change the needle, use good quality thread and the same thread on the top and on the bobbin.
