Herts Reuse Shops PAT testing volunteers wanted

If you live in Hertfordshire and could spare a few hours a week to do PAT testing in one of the County-run Reuse Shops, this might be for you. You will be given full training in an in-person PAT testing course.

There are vacancies at Stevenage, Ware, Waterdale (North Watford) and Welwyn Garden City. (I do Harpenden.)

This is an opportunity to make a very tangible impact on the problem of e-waste, at the same time helping to provide a valuable service to the community by growing the availability of low cost items, especially for those of limited means. In addition to loads of lamps, we get plenty of irons, TVs, Radios, small kitchen appliances, power tools, novelty items, and a few things, the first challenge being to work out what it is! Today we had a smoke machine, which was a first. All of these need a basic functional test (in attition to a PAT test) which can be an interesting challenge if the instructions are missing. Sometimes you will get the chance to bid for a particularly useful item; I’m writing this using a lovely 32ā€ curvy monitor the manager let me have at an attractive price.
