Collecting data on the end of Windows 10 activities at community events

We’d like to be able to report on the scale of the community response to the end of Windows 10.

I’ve put this in the toolkit so far:

If your group is already logging the data from your events in a tool such as Restarters.net or the Repair Monitor, consider tagging your group, your events, or your individual fixes with #endof10, as well as recording the solution chosen by the visitor.

Thinking that filtering the data for these tags would be simple to incorporate without any functionality changes required. Would like to consider it more though. Also considering how to encourage other networks collecting data on other platforms to do similar.

Some things it’d be useful to do:

  • report how many repair groups are supporting the end of 10
  • report how many events supported the end of 10
  • report how many computers have been looked at
  • report what the outcome was for each one (Linux install? ChromeOS Flex? Win 11? Stick with Win 10? etc)
  • share a list of repair groups running End of 10 events, and specific events themselves, with the endof10.org campaign (https://endof10.org/contribute/)

Thoughts?

@Monique considered this in another thread already:

Using the hashtag when recording in the Fixometer is a great idea.

I’m noticing that as well as Win10 EOL being a reason to switch, there are people starting to ditch Win11 too. I’d recommend using the same #EndOf10 tag but do include that it is actually Win11 being replaced. Or dual-booted, if that is the case.

Repair Cafe Lambeth has a Linux install booked for this Saturday! :penguin:  I’ve not built a form, reckon I’ll just take a notebook with me.
