Any plans for International Repair Day 2024? (19 Oct)

International Repair Day is just around the corner! :tada:
This year it falls on the 19th of October.

In the UK :uk:, we’re hoping to use it as a chance to put repair on the political agenda and get buy-in from MPs for the Repair & Reuse Declaration.

But we’re also really excited about the amazing plans from friends around the world, who are planning hundreds (or even thousands) of events across France :fr:, repair workshops in four of the biggest cities in India :india:, Repair Café International’s 15th birthday in the Netherlands :netherlands: and a repair training course in a refugee camp in Uganda :uganda: (and much more :earth_africa: ).

Are you planning your own celebration this October?

If you’re looking for ways to join in, we’ve produced a couple of handbooks for community groups:

Handbook for UK groups :uk: OR Handbook for groups outside the UK :globe_with_meridians:

Great to hear, thanks Alex!
Hope the handbook is useful

Hi there, @james the Repair Cafe Leighton Buzzard won’t be meeting on International Repair Day itself as we meet on 4th Saturday of month - however I wanted to see if there was a way to link up with other Repair Cafes in France or Germany (which are located nearest to our two overseas town twins) and link up to compare and celebrate Repair internationally. Do you have any suggestions of how we could do that in simple way? Edwina

Hi @Edwina_Osborne - what a good idea!

@ugo is leading on our higher-level work with international partners at the moment.

But to connect with individual repair cafés, you could get in touch with them directly.

In Germany, our friends at anstiftung run a network for Repair Cafés: Netzwerk Reparatur-Initiativen. If your German twin town has a repair café, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find it there.

France is a little more complex. Zero Waste France has a reasonably good map of French repair cafés here. Otherwise, depending on the region, we may be able to point you towards a group directly.

And of course there’s always Repair Café International’s map, which should list most groups too.

@Margaret_Hersee, good question. There will be, yes. @Holly_Davies is working on this at the moment and will add it to the UK handbook as soon as it’s ready. We can ping you when it’s done

Hello from India!

We’ve scheduled our first event for October 20th in Mumbai, with additional events in the planning stages. We’ll keep you updated as details are confirmed. Our activities may extend throughout October in celebration of International Repair Day.

We’re also collaborating with an international partner to organize an online event focused on repair and care in India, and will share more information soon.

In the meantime, we’ve launched the Chennai chapter. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/KAfzgR7BuAM?si=PfvoYP2uTjgkBWm6

Thanks and regards,
