Trained as an engineer in the BBC in the 1960s; worked as a sound recording engineer and in electronic maintenance, then in studio design and installation. I later did an MSc in acoustics, vibration and noise control, and worked in the BBC architectural department, and afterwards as an independent consultant until I retired. I’ve always hated throwing away things that can be fixed, and I love finding a way to keep things working. My pet hate is plastic parts that aren’t designed strongly enough.
