I was one of those kids who enjoyed taking things apart and making broken things work again and I still do.

I qualified with an HNC in Electronics/Electrical Engineering in the mid '80s. Worked in fringe theatre as a sound and lighting technician before pursuing another passion - computer programming.

Moved to New Zealand in the early '90s. Much of my time there was spent as a working director of a small IT company which involved leading small technical teams while acting as main point of contact with the client. As well as programming, I’ve got my hands dirty with many many aspects of the software development lifecycle; from strategic IT and business advice through requirements analysis, project management, testing and post-implementation support. Clients ranged from SMEs through to listed companies. Studying part-time, I obtained a postgraduate qualification at business school. I also made time to work with a feature writer as a photographer, creating images to accompany food, fashion, lifestyle and travel articles in national publications, in New Zealand.

I returned to the UK a few years ago.

I am working to establish a side hustle as a “self-shooting producer-director” of short films for corporate and educational purposes.

I’m a member of Make Gosport a newly established community makerspace and am involved in establishing Repair Cafe Gosport.

My current personal interests include family history research and oral history interviewing. I have completed training with the UK Oral History Society and worked as a volunteer on community oral history projects, for example “Pompey: Champions of England – The sporting and social history of Portsmouth FC’s title wins”. There’s something really magical about recording a conversation that’s going into an archive for future historians to study.
